In the employment tribunal decision of Carroll v The British Red Cross Society Limited, the redundancy of the former assistant manager of a British Red Cross (BRC) store was found to be procedurally unfair and discriminatory on the grounds of disability.

Carroll was the assistant store manager of a BRC store in Plymouth. Her employment was terminated by reason of redundancy when the store closed on 31 December 2019. At the date of her dismissal, an assistant manager vacancy had arisen at another local BRC store, but it had not been offered to Carroll. She successfully argued that she should have been offered the post as suitable alternative employment, and that the reason the post had not been offered to her was because of high absence levels caused by her disability.
