It was a love of arts rather than a fondness for charities that pulled Anupam Ganguli into the sector. In fact, London’s rich culture and arts heritage were the main reasons why he moved to the city 30 years ago. He says: “The whole reason for leaving India and coming to live and work here was what London has to offer in terms of its amazing range of arts and culture.”

Born in Calcutta and educated in Darjeeling before studying economics at the University of Delhi, Ganguli is now director of finance and administration at the Royal Albert Hall. He has managed to turn his passion into a successful career, but he did not enter the arts sector as soon as he moved to the UK. He trained as a chartered accountant with PwC and spent a year in banking, which he “hated”. He then worked for BBC Resources, which was a commercial subsidiary of the corporation, before moving to KPMG UK in 2000.
