How have you found the transition from your previous job into the chief executive role?

I joined Children with Cancer UK in July 2017 last year, initially in the role of head of philanthropy and partnerships. Upon joining the organisation I very quickly saw that I was able to add value at a more strategic leadership level and, within a couple of months, was promoted to chief operating officer and chief philanthropy officer. So I was essentially managing all of the operations side of the business, as well as all of the fundraising teams and communications.

For me, it was a really big step up. Coming in new to an organisation and really looking at the structures; looking at the processes across the whole remit. One of the things I started doing as COO was to look at the structure of the teams across the organisation. I have pretty much restructured the whole organisation now as chief executive.
