What qualities does a fundraiser need?

As a fundraiser you need belief in the mission of your organisation and in yourself, as well as the ability to bounce back when people say no. Listening skills are vital – most fundraisers are excellent speakers but not as good at listening. And a love of people – after all people give to people.

What is the most important thing to you in your career?

The most important thing to me in my career is being able to have an impact. One of the things I love about working at FareShare is that we have our London warehouse on site. This means we regularly have the opportunity to hop into a delivery van and meet those at the charities that our food goes to. You can see the impact of the funds you are raising every day. I think it is so important to work for an organisation that encourages fundraisers to visit their services and work closely alongside colleagues providing operations or services so that you are inspired yourself and you can go out and inspire others.
