The last two decades have seen some significant changes in the way charities raise money and what causes people give to. Among other things, the last 20 years has seen the rise and gradual fall of direct marketing and face-to-face fundraising, while the economic downturn took its toll on individual giving, and public trust in charities hit an all time low.

In 1996, Fundraising Magazine’s sister title Charity Finance began collecting data on the income of the nation’s largest charities to compile the haysmacintyre / Charity Finance 100 Index. This data is also used to compile our own Fundraising Director’s survey every other year.
