What are the main similarities and differences between charities and corporates when it comes to toxic work environments?

We need to consider three areas when we are looking at the theme of toxicity in the work environment: First, we need to think about our own actions and behaviour, and whether that may be contributing to an environment being toxic or not. Second is the role of the line manager and his or her ability to nip things in the bud at the earliest opportunity and carry out their role in a way that is professional, for example, by not claiming credit for someone else’s work. And third is the organisation and its systems. There can be occasions where the systems of an organisation contribute towards something being toxic or not. These are true with both corporates and charities.

Specifically in relation to differences between charity and corporate workplaces, businesses sometimes have unlimited financial resources to throw at these problems, whereas charities simply do not. And even if they do have access to those kinds of funds, it can be hard to get trustee sign-off to tackle such issues.
