You have been in the job for nearly a year, how have you found the move from Macmillan?

To be honest, it has been an easy transition. I have been on a steep learning curve about all matters stroke, but the commissioning, fundraising and governance challenges are the same. The size, maturity and brand profile of the two charities are clearly different, but the need to listen, lead with authenticity, and adapt one’s leadership style to not only fit with, but also shape, the culture are remarkably similar. And my personal experience of supporting my long-term partner to live with, and eventually die from, a brain tumour means I have a natural affinity with the struggles of stroke survivors and their carers.

What are your most successful channels for income generation and donations? How much do each of them generate?

Legacy fundraising accounted for half of our fundraised income (£10.7m in 2015/16) and a third of organisational overall income (£36.5m in 2015/16).
