Most readers of Governance & Leadership will know that keeping people safe should be a governance priority for all charities. No organisation on the Charity Commission’s Register of Charities is excluded from that principle, and no trustee is excluded from the associated responsibilities. A charity should always be a safe place, for all people.

The Commission is also well aware that the steps a charity should take to keep people safe will vary according to what it does, and where and how it works. Ensuring effective safeguarding is as complex and multi-faceted as the principles are simple.
