It’s not easy to just say we are going to dismantle structural racism, because there are so many underlying factors which come into play about what we need to do. We need to open our eyes. We need to think, breathe, pause, read, inquire and search. We need to do some unlearning of our own minds.

It starts with those who are holding positions of power and influence. Over the years I’ve continually heard myself talking about structural racism and what needs to be done, and it’s tiring as a Black lone voice in a sector that is very white and very male dominated. I don’t want to hold your hand through the necessary changes. I don’t believe it’s my job as a Black woman to only be the one talking about this. I often feel quite emotional talking about the challenges and the racism that I have experienced, reliving trauma after trauma.
