Prince Charles has accumulated £3.3m for his charitable trust from the undesignated legacies of the deceased in Cornwall.
Under his title of the Duke of Cornwall, Prince Charles is afforded the proceeds of legacies not dedicated in wills where there are no living relatives. To date, the pot sits at £3.3m.
The Duke of Cornwall's Benevolent Trust was set up by Prince Charles to raise further charitable funds from those assigned from the wills. In 2011/12 the fund received donations of £450,000 and investment income of £90,772 and made 151 grants totalling £100,010. Overall, funding was boosted from £3.005m in 2010/11 to £3.33m in 2011/12.
Of all the beneficiaries last year, Business in the Community, one of the Prince's charities in which he is President, came out on top, receiving £19,300 over two grants. The next largest beneficiaries were Welsh Abbey Strata Florida and Gordonstown School, the school the Prince himself attended. Each reaped £5,000. A number of churches, a festival, an air ambulance and the War Memorials Trust were among others who benefitted to the tune of £1,000.
