Action for Children has appointed a permanent chief executive for the first time in three years, the charity has announced.
The organisation, which has been led by interim chief executive Melanie Armstrong since March 2020, has promoted its national director for Scotland Paul Carberry to take over permanently from March next year.
Carberry has been with Action for Children since 1994, when he joined as a project leader in Scotland.
Action for Children’s chair Sarika Patel said: “Paul is well placed to take the organisation forward. He knows our charity well and has built up a huge wealth of experience across children’s services as national director for Scotland and also as national director for England.
“The trustees and I are very grateful to Melanie who took on the role in 2020. She has steered the charity through the pandemic, led on stabilising our finances and has overseen the introduction of our new strategy to ensure our vital work continues with children, young people and families.”
Action for Children’s most recent permanent chief executive, Julie Bentley, left after 18 months in charge due to personal reasons.
The organisation’s income was £143m in the last financial year.
