Action for Children has appointed Melanie Armstrong as its interim chief executive.
She joins after Julie Bentley announced she was stepping down after 18 months in the role, citing personal reasons.
She thanked staff at the charity and said they are “some of the very best people I have encountered in my 25 year charity sector career”.
Thread. 1/2: For personal reasons I have resigned from the wonderful @actnforchildren . Colleagues from across the Action for Children family are some of the very best people I have encountered in my 25 year charity sector career.

Armstrong is returning to Action for Children, after working as the interim managing director of corporate shared services at Action for Children until December last year. The charity has an income of around £150m a year.
She has previously held senior roles in both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors.
Armstrong was previously at Macmillan Cancer Support as executive director of finance, legal and audit. She was also finance director at the London Business School and before that at Cadbury Schweppes.
She is a graduate of the University of Manchester.
Sarika Patel, chair at Action for Children, said: “The board and I are delighted to have Melanie back. She knows our organisation well and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the charity, working closely with our executive leadership team (ELT). The search for a permanent chief executive is now underway.”
Armstrong will take up the interim chief executive role on 3 March.
