Birmingham City Council has become the latest local authority to sign a regulatory agreement with the Public Fundraising Association placing restrictions on face-to-face fundraising.
Under the rules of the new agreement, the number of face-to-face fundraisers allowed to operate in the city will be restricted to four and those fundraisers will only be allowed to work in the city centre between Sundays and Tuesdays.
According to a statement released by the PFRA, the site management agreement has been agreed between Birmingham City Council and the face-to-face fundraising regulator and will go ahead on a trial period for the next three months.
Birmingham has become the 101st local council to sign an SMA agreement with the PFRA. A PFRA spokeswoman told Civil Society News that the SMA was agreed at the Birmingham City Council licensing committee meeting earlier this week.
“We welcome this decision which will lead to a significant reduction in fundraising numbers for Birmingham,” said Peter Hills-Jones, chief executive of the PFRA.
“The PFRA is confident that over the next 3 months this trial will demonstrate conclusively that our voluntary agreements lead to a real improvement at no cost to local taxpayers.”
