The British Heart Foundation’s chief executive Simon Gillespie has been named as one of the top leaders in the country after gaining a high approval rating from the charity’s staff.

Gillespie was handed a Glassdoor Employee’s Choice Award after getting a 91 per cent approval rating from employees, the 44th highest rating of any chief executive in the UK.

He is the only chief executive of a charity to make it only the list this year, which takes in ratings from hundreds of thousands of companies.

Gillespie said: “I am delighted and very flattered that our amazing staff and volunteers have rated me so highly. The success of any organisation depends on its people being happy and confident about where they work, and I hope this rating reflects this about the BHF.

“This award is also a tribute to the inclusive and dynamic culture that everyone at the BHF contributes to. I am really proud to be part of such a special team of people who give their all in the fight against heart and circulatory diseases.”

This is the second award for Gillespie in recent weeks, after he was awarded an OBE earlier this month.

Civil Society Media's Charity People & Culture Conference takes place in September and this year the overall theme is 'Wellbeing & inclusion in modernisation'. View the programme and book online here.
