The British Heart Foundation has opened its first pop-up department store in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey.
The shop, which was opened yesterday morning by local Mayor Thay Thayalan, is expected to be in Kingston for two years ahead of a planned regeneration of the local shopping area.
At 17,000 square foot, it will be one of the charities largest stores and will stock furniture, homeware, clothing, accessories and books.
The store, located at 10 Alderman Judge Mall, will also offer shoppers heart health information and run CPR training sessions on site.
Rachel Andrew, BHF area manager, said: “We are so excited to have this new and innovative space in Kingston, which we hope will become a valued addition to the town centre.
“If you are having a clear out in the next few weeks, we would love to receive any good quality furniture, home accessories, clothes, shoes, bags and books."
She said it was also recruiting for volunteers for the Kingston shop.
BHF is the largest chain of charity shops in the UK, according to the latest Charity Shops Survey, with 724 stores in 2017. Some 170 of these are furniture and electrical stores.
Despite recording a net closure of 11 stores in 2016/17, the charity has its sights set on expansion with an aim “for everyone in the UK to have a local British Heart Foundation shop”.
