Only domestic abuse service for LGBT community was ‘days from closure’ before grants arrived
Broken Rainbow, the only national charity providing help and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people experiencing domestic violence, is reportedly “was days from closure” before a promised government grant arrived.
Buzzfeed reported that the charity faces imminent closure after a number of funders, including the Home Office, had delayed in delivering grants.
UPDATE: The Home Office has now said it is committed to tackling the problem of domestic violence and will renew its funding to support the charity for 2016/17.
Oxfam makes demand of PM after Panama Papers leak
Oxfam has called on David Cameron to clean up Britain’s “dirty offshore backyard” after the Panama Papers leak revealed UK-linked, offshore tax-havens, including the British Virgin Islands.
The Telegraph reported that Oxfam UK has made five demands of Cameron to help “put the UK’s house in order” before he hosts an international tax and anti-corruption summit in London in May.
War-wounded military dog awarded medal by charity
Lucca, a 12-year-old German Shepherd who lost a leg during a search for improvised explosive devices in Afghanistan has been awarded a medal by the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals.
As reported by the BBC, Lucca was awarded The Dickin medal by the PDSA at a ceremony in Central London this week. She completed over 400 missions as a search dog in both Iraq and Afghanistan. She lost her front left leg in 2012, after triggering an explosive device.
