Macmillan Cancer Support has topped YouGov’s 2023 UK charity rankings for a 10th consecutive year.

YouGov’s list claims to show the charities to which members of the public would most likely donate.

Based on data collected last year, the charities are ranked by their “donor ranking score”.

With a score of 43.1, Macmillan led second-placed Cancer Research UK, which had a score of 42.8.

British Heart Foundation, Guide Dogs and RSPCA made up the rest of the top five, with scores of 35.6, 29.8 and 28.8 respectively.

British Red Cross saw the most improved score, leading the top improver rankings with an increase of 3.0. UNICEF is the second most-improved, with an increase of 2.7.

The top improvers rankings chart shows the brands with the highest increase in donor consideration score comparing 1 January to 31 December 2021, and 1 January to 31 December 2022.

Trussell Trust, Blood Cancer UK and Young Lives vs Cancer made up the rest of the top five top improvers, with score increases of 2.1, 1.9 and 1.7 respectively.

British Heart Foundation placed sixth with an increase of 1.4, just ahead of Oxfam which had an increase of 1.3.

The rankings show the brands with the highest average donor consideration score between 1 January and 31 December 2022.

The score is calculated using data from the YouGov CharityIndex tool, which is collected from members of the public across the UK.

Steph Okell, head of brand at Macmillan, said: “We recognise the importance of having a well-known and trusted brand, as it means that people are more likely to turn to us for support, as well as choose to support us in the life-changing work that we do.

“We’re pleased to have topped the YouGov charity rankings for 2023, as it is one measure of the strength of our brand.”
