Change Grow Live sees income grow by more than 10%

Change Grow Live has reported a 10% year-on-year increase in its income to £242.2m.

According to its latest set of accounts for the year to March 2022, the charity's income rose from £220.1m the year before.

Most of the charity's income, more than £230m, comes from its statutory health and social care services. Donations and legacies were, however, down in the year 2020-21, from £530,000 to £219,000.

The charity's expenditure also grew to £238.7m, compared to £213.8m in 2020-21. This was driven by a £20m increase in staff costs to £168.9m overall.

Medical director Dr Prun Bijral was the charity's highest paid member of staff, receiving a base salary of £208,000, up from £201,000 the year before.

Chief executive Mark Moody received a base salary of £183,000, up from £177,000 the year prior.

Redundancy costs were down from £523,00 in 2021 to £59,000 in the most recent financial year.

The charity had total reserves of £43m, and during the year trustees committed to designate £15m of historic reserves to invest in enhancing service delivery and digital innovation.

Pandemic ‘drove charity forward’

Moody wrote in an introduction to the accounts: “The journey out of the pandemic has been longer and more challenging than anyone could have anticipated, but I believe we are emerging on the other side as a stronger, more compassionate, and more connected organisation than ever before.”

Though the pandemic required the charity to “put many things on hold”, the chief executive said “it drove us forward faster than we could have imagined”.

Moody said there are tough economic times ahead, adding the charity should play a leading role in the sector to ensure people are able to access the support they need.
