The finance functions of charities have been celebrated at the House of Lords, at the beginning of the inaugural Charity Finance Week.
Baroness Pitkeathley of Caversham, president of NCVO, addressed 150 charity finance professionals yesterday afternoon where she praised the expertise in the room.
Pitkeathley also paid tribute to Civil Society Media founder Daniel Phelan, who she said “had such passion and commitment to promoting good financial practice across the charity sector”.
Gareth Jones, editor of Charity Finance magazine, talked about the importance of the finance function in charities, which he said is under resourced in many organisations and highlighted research for his publication which found that nearly two thirds of charities say core functions are under-resourced.
Helen Stephenson, chief executive of the Charity Commission, was in attendance and later Tweeted: “Thanks to Civil Society Media for highlighting the vital work of the sector's unsung heroes - the finance professionals. Good to support the launch of Charity Finance Week.”
