NCVO and ACEVO have joined forces to create a manifesto ahead of the next general election and are asking charity sector professionals to help them develop it.
The infrastructure bodies will use the manifesto to engage with parties across the political spectrum, including at this year’s party conferences.
In a joint statement, the infrastructure bodies said they wanted the manifesto to be “truly representative of the whole charity and volunteering sector”.
The manifesto will set out a vision for the society charities want to see and the role charities can play in it.
NCVO and ACEVO are running in-person and online events to gather the feedback from charity leaders on what their priorities are for the sector and what they would like political parties to be focusing on.
NCVO: ‘Often, the role we play is undervalued by political parties’
Sarah Vibert, chief executive of NCVO, said: “Charities and volunteers are on the frontline of the challenges facing communities. Charity leaders, staff and volunteers across the country continue to do brilliant work to support people in the face of spiralling costs and rising inequality.
“But often, the role we play in the economy and society as a sector is undervalued by political parties.
“We need to make sure our voices are heard – so that we can play our part in building a better future. But for that, we need to make sure that our vision represents the whole sector.
“I’m excited to hear from charities of all shapes and sizes as we look to address the big questions that impact our sector and our society.”
ACEVO: ‘Shaping a manifesto for the society we want to see’
Jane Ide, chief executive of ACEVO, said: “The lead-up to a general election is an opportunity for us all to imagine the sort of society that we want to live in and the factors that will help that vision to become a reality.
“The role that civil society leaders play in helping to shape and influence our everyday lives and the environments we live in is essential to creating a strong social fabric and in articulating what our society needs to thrive.
“We are coming together with NCVO to invite our sector’s leaders – whether ACEVO members or not – to take part in shaping a manifesto for the society we want to see and the role that our sector plays in bringing it to life.”
