Only A Pavement Away has urged businesses in the hospitality sector to donate old IT equipment to help raise funds.
The charity, which helps people at risk of homelessness, those leaving prison and veterans get jobs in hospitality, has recently partnered with DSA Connect (DSAC), an IT asset disposal company.
DSAC was established in 2011 to promote the Disposal Services Authority, a government body founded by the Ministry of Defence. The company collects surplus and obsolete IT equipment such as laptops, printers and hard drives and securely destroys all data contained on these items.
As part of its work, DSAC delivers accredited training workshops at several UK prisons including HMP Chelmsford and HMP The Mount. Personnel are trained on non-data bearing IT equipment so that they can help prepare prisoners for employment upon release.
Only A Pavement Away said that many businesses and organisations can find themselves with redundant IT equipment after downsizing, periodically refreshing their equipment or relocating or closing their offices.
Greg Mangham, founder of Only A Pavement Away, said: “We’re committed to working with prison leavers to give them the additional support they need to find work on the outside, and helping the hospitality sector to give someone a life chance and potentially, grow new talent.
“This partnership offers the perfect opportunity for the hospitality sector to safely recycle redundant IT equipment while helping to raise money for Only A Pavement Away and supporting the IT Prison Workshop Initiative.”
