The Charity Commission has appointed interim managers to a London-based think tank, the Centre for Global Studies, which it is investigating.

The inquiry was opened on 8 August 2022 as a result of regulatory concerns about the charity and its management by its trustees.

The Commission will look at any potential conflicts of interest which have not been effectively managed and consider whether there has been any unauthorised benefit to the trustees or connected persons.

The regulator has appointed interim managers to conduct a review of the charity’s governance and administration and make recommendations to the Commission.

They are Sarah Tomlinson and Edwina Turner of Anthony Collins Solicitors, who were appointed on 28 April to the exclusion of trustees.

The inquiry will also examine the charity’s financial controls and processes, the charity's activities in the UK and overseas.

It will also consider how best to safeguard the charity’s assets and whether there has been misconduct or mismanagement by those in control of the charity.

The think tank was founded in 1996 and grew out of the Social Market Foundation.

Its charitable aims are to improve education and public understanding of economics through publishing research and organising educational events.
