The Charity Commission has released a new beta version of its digital charity register which it says will make finding information on organisations easier.
While registered charity information on the commission’s website currently receives over six million views a year, research undertaken on users suggested that the search function could be easier to use and the information itself more clearly presented, the Commission said.
The Charity Commission is now urging users to comment and provide further suggestions for improvement.
Sarah Atkinson, director of policy and communications, at the Charity Commission said: “The new online charity search tool will help make charities more accountable to the public - and help the public to access the information they need to support charities with confidence.
“We want to hear from as many users as possible over coming days and weeks about changes and improvements they think we can make.”
Later updates to the beta version have been released in a statement from the commission and will also include additional information from individual charities’ annual returns, including how it raises its funds, has a trading subsidiary or makes grants as one of its main activities.
The beta version will remain on the commission’s website until the new version proper goes live later this year.
