The Charity Commission will launch a new whistleblowing helpline as part of a series of measures to help people working in charities report concerns.
The regulator had 101 whistleblowing incidents last year, up from 88 the previous year. The Commission has recognised it must do more to help individuals reporting concerns.
It will now publish improved guidance, and provide more training for its staff to help whistleblowers. It will also work with a specialist organisation to set up a helpline to provide whistleblowers with more support.
“We will put improved processes in place for our handling of whistleblowers and their disclosures both during our initial assessment of reports and at the conclusion of any cases that we subsequently open,” the regulator said in a statement released on Friday.
“We will also improve our approach to recording whistleblowing disclosures to provide us with better analytics. This will help us provide more detail to the public about the disclosures we receive and will also inform further developments to our approach to handling them.”
