A charity set up to continue aspects of Kids Company’s work has changed its name and launched a website.

Initially the charity was called The 1-Up Foundation but has now filed documents with Companies House changing its name to UP – Unlocking Potential.
Its trustees include hedge fund manager Stuart Roden and celebrity hairdresser John Frieda who had been involved with an attempt to rescue Kids Company.

This year the charity has appointed and a number of senior staff, including Clare Algar as chief executive. Algar was previously executive director at Reprieve and joined UP – Unlocking Potential in April.

It has also appointed a director of finance and operations and a director of strategy and impact.

The charity’s first set of accounts for the period up to 31 August 2016 are due to be filed by 26 May 2017 with Companies House.

UP – Unlocking Potential’s website says its three main programmes are working with disadvantaged children aged four to 11, helping disadvantaged 18 to 24 year olds find employment and helping widen the opportunities available to young people. Activities include running an after school club and a school-based therapeutic service.
