Family and friends of Claire Squires, the runner who collapsed and died during this year’s London Marathon, plan to launch a charity in the next few months.
The Squires Effect, as the charity will be known, will aim to inspire others to fundraise for charities by encouraging people to share their experiences.
It will bring charities and fundraisers together to “carry on the legacy of a truly remarkable person”, a new website for the organisation advises.
In the days following her death members of the public pledged over £1m on her JustGiving page for the Samaritans. The platform also waived its usual charges, ensuring the full legacy of support was felt by the charity.
The Squires Effect founders have organised a family fun day in memory of Claire to raise money for the Laura Centre, a Leicestershire-based child bereavement charity, which will take place next Saturday at the Market Harborough Rugby Club.
