Community Foundation Network, which connects individuals and organisations with local communities, has changed its name to UK Community Foundations with immediate effect.

The charity, which has an income of £11.3m, was founded in 1975 and alongside the name change now carries the strapline “for thriving communities”.

Matthew Bowcock, chair of UK Community Foundations, said that the name change and the new strapline “will help the community foundation movement to raise its profile and promote the service that it provides to donors, voluntary groups and charities”.

He added that each year the 54 community foundations across the UK provide funding to more than 20,000 local charities and voluntary community groups, and that he expects that UK Community Foundations’ cumulative investment in communities will pass the £0.75bn mark in 2013.

Last year, the umbrella body was considering a merger with the Association of Charitable Foundations.  However, the ACF's chief executive David Emerson has confirmed that the two organisations have decided not to pursue this further.
