Contactless car to raise money for Stand Up to Cancer

Stand Up to Cancer, the fundraising campaign run by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4, have partnered with Hyundai Motor UK to attach contactless donation points to a car.

A Zero-emission Hyundai IONIQ Electric will feature five contactless donation points so members of the public can use contactless payment to securely donate either £5 or £10 to support Stand Up To Cancer’s life-saving research.

The car will ‘thank’ those who have donated using audio and visual cues and electronic movements and display a digital ‘totaliser’ on its number plates to show how much has been raised. It will be unveiled on 22 May in London and travel around the country between May and November.

Rachel Carr, head of Stand Up To Cancer, said: “We’re always looking for new ways to engage and excite supporters and Hyundai has come up trumps with the creation of the world’s first contactless car. It’s an exciting partnership that brings a fun and simple way of donating to the masses.

“We’re hoping people across the UK will be impressed and inspired by the vehicle and will choose to tap and donate to support Stand Up To Cancer’s work to bring kinder and better treatments to patients, faster.”

One-quarter of bucket collection was contactless

Last year the campaign equipped its bucket collectors with contactless donation buckets and found that 25 per cent of the amount raised came from contactless donations.

CRUK described the feedback as “overwhelmingly positive”.
