A major UK crowdfunding platform has announced plans to launch a charitable foundation to “empower communities, amplify social impact, and redefine how we fund change”.

Crowdfunder UK said its foundation would harness “the collective power of community fundraising” and is aimed at helping philanthropists, high-net-worth individuals, trusts and foundations to maximise their charitable contributions through the “innovative” use of crowdfunding.

Announced yesterday, the Crowdfunder Foundation will support “community-driven” projects through matched crowdfunding, with a focus on social, environmental and community initiatives.

It will be especially dedicated to supporting local initiatives that tackle key social issues, such as poverty alleviation, nature recovery and regeneration, and supporting the growth of social enterprises in local areas.

Foundation will foster ‘sense of community involvement and support’

Jason Nuttall, head of the Crowdfunder Foundation, said: “By leveraging the power of crowdfunding, we are not only maximising the impact of individual donations but also fostering a sense of community involvement and support.”

As well as assisting individual donors, the new foundation also invites charities to increase their impact by using their funding to support a wider range of organisations in their community.

Dawn Bebe, co-CEO of Crowdfunder, said: “The Crowdfunder Foundation isn't just about funding projects, it's about empowering people.

“It's about giving everyone the opportunity to bring their ideas to life, to build communities, and to make a real difference in the world.

“This is about democratising finance and unlocking the potential of the crowd.”
