The Dove Trust, the charity which ran the now defunct website Charitygiving, has begun to make payments to charities and good causes that are owed money.
There is approximately £2m owed by the Dove Trust to nominated charities and good causes, with £700,000 currently available for distribution.
Pesh Framjee, the interim manager, said on the Dove Trust website that, in accordance with a High Court order, charities and good causes that had been pledged money by fundraisers through the website will “generally receive about 35 pence for every pound owed to them”.
A statement on Charitygiving’s website says that instructions have already been given to pay approximately £175,000 to approximately 300 charities and good causes. It has said that a second batch of payments to a further 570 charities and good causes, totalling £236,000, will be finalised this week.
The statement adds: “However, we should make clear that not every charity and good cause will receive a payment. In accordance with the High Court Order, we shall not make any distribution to any charity or good cause where the costs associated with so doing are equal to or greater than the amount which would be distributed.”
In July this year a judge ruled that the available funds should be distributed amongst the beneficiaries in proportion to the amounts outstanding.
Charities who believe they are affected or who have already heard from the interim manager should look at the information on the Charitygiving website and follow the instructions set out.
