The Fundraising Regulator has named the chair of the regulator's Standards Committee, who will be responsible for setting the Code of Fundraising Practice, and also announced two new board members.
In an announcement made today, Lord Grade, chair of the regulator, revealed that Suzanne McCarthy (pictured), chair of Depaul UK, has been appointed as the chair of the Fundraising Regulator’s new Standards Committee.
McCarthy, who already sits on the regulator’s board, will effectively be continuing in the role, as she is currently the chair of the Institute of Fundraising’s Standards Committee.
"I am delighted to announce that the board has appointed Suzanne McCarthy as committee chair and we are in the process of recruiting external committee members with both regulatory and fundraising experience."
Grade also said that the regulator's adjudications panel will be established by May.
The chair of the Fundraising Regulator also announced that David Cunningham and Lucy Caldicott will be the final two board members. He said that their appointments brought the “right balance” between regulatory experience and fundraising knowledge to the board's make-up.
“I am delighted that with these two further appointments we have been able to strike the right balance on the board between regulatory experience, fundraising expertise and wider knowledge of the charitable sector,” he said.
David Cunningham is the chief executive of the Archie Foundation and is also chair of the IoF Scotland’s Standards Committee. Lucy Caldicott is the interim chief executive of Diversity Role Models and is a member of the Policy Advisory Board of the IoF.
Cunningham and Caldicott will sit alongside Grade and the other eight existing members of the board, who were announced in February.
Peter Lewis, chief executive of the IoF, praised the appointments in a statement.
"We welcome the appointment of Lucy Caldicott and David Cunningham to the board of the Fundraising Regulator. Both have excellent first-hand experience of fundraising, as well as of working to support best practice across the sector.
"We are also very glad that Suzanne McCarthy will be the chair of the Fundraising Regulator’s Standards Committee. I am sure that she will continue the excellent work she has started as the first independent chair of the IoF’s Standards Committee."
