Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity has hired senior fundraiser Louise Parkes as its new chief executive.
She will take up the post on 1 May, replacing Tim Johnson, who has held the role since 2008.
She has been corporate director for income and innovation at Barnardo’s from 2016, where her responsibilities included fundraising, managing the charity’s trading arm and brand marketing. She has worked in the sector for over 20 years, working in fundraising for charities such as the British Heart Foundation and Shelter.
Parkes said: “I have seen first-hand the extraordinary work the hospital makes to the lives of seriously ill children and I look forward to leading the charity to continue its endeavour to support one of the best children’s hospitals in the world.”
John Connolly, chair of added: “We’re delighted that Louise is joining as our new chief executive. She brings with her considerable experience in fundraising and leadership and we are confident that she will take the charity from strength to strength as we enter a new era.
Tim Johnson will join fundraising consultancy More Partnership. When he announced he was leaving GOSH Charity, he said: “The decision to leave GOSH was not an easy one. When I look back at all that the charity, thanks to our generous donors, has helped the hospital to achieve – treating more patients, advancing pioneering research to improve patient outcomes and helping to enhance the experience for patients and their families – I could not be more proud.”
