Charity Finance Group and the Charity Investors’ Group have today launched a support guide to help charities in writing their investment policy.

Writing your charity’s investment policy – a guide is available to all charities, not just members, and includes a model template covering all the core aspects that should be included in a charity’s investment policy and a range of good practice examples.

Caron Bradshaw, CEO of Charity Finance Group, said the policy will provide a "framework for making investment decisions" and highlighted the importance of getting it right:

“Charities hold over £85bn in investment assets and it’s crucial that they have proper governance in place," she said

"We are regularly approached by charities seeking support, guidance and good practice examples of how others have developed their policy, so we know that this practical guide will be a valuable resource for many."

Kate Rogers, chair of the Charity Investors’ Group, added: “Investment is a complex subject and having a written policy ensures that trustees and investment managers are clear about what the charity wants to achieve with its investments.”
