The Home Office is inviting applications to apply for the first tranche of its £14m modern slavery fund and has announced £3m in new funding.
It is part of the £11m that the Home Secretary announced for the Modern Slavery Innovation Fund in October, and this week it was announced that an additional £3m will be available to specifically tackle child trafficking, bringing the total to £14m.
Charities, the private sector, public bodies and academics can now apply for the first £6m tranche of funding and have until 29 November to do so.
Minister for vulnerability, safeguarding and countering extremism Sarah Newton said: “Modern slavery is a stain on our society. It is happening here and it is happening now. Only by working together can we win the fight against this barbaric crime, which destroys the lives of the most vulnerable.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to tackle the scourge of modern slavery these funds, totalling £14m, will help develop innovative approaches to support victims and bring perpetrators to justice, enhance support for children who are victims of trafficking and send a message that slavery will not be tolerated.”
