World Jewish Relief (WJR) has launched its own online gift giving website, Wjrapped Up, raising more than £2,000 in its first month.
The charity decided last year to develop their own online gift website and appointed website designers Totally Communications in July. Development of the site cost the charity £9,600 which was funded completely by one major donor.
Donors can buy a range of gifts reflecting the work of WJR in areas such as humanitarian needs, livelihood development, and education.
The most popular gifts to date have been the £25 food package for a family in Moldova or Ukraine to enable them to celebrate the Passover festival and a £6 gift to give a child glasses.
Gifts range from £5 to cover the cost of shipping a box of humanitarian aid to countries in the former Soviet Union to £500 to provide education for a Jewish child with special needs.
Paul Stein, WJR’s director of fundraising and communication said: “It will allow people to buy a truly worthwhile, innovative gift for a friend or family member, that will also make a huge difference to someone who really needs WJR’s support.”
A spokesperson for the charity told Civil Society that they were looking at ways to expand the range of gifts and to develop mobile phone applications.
