An independent grantmaking charitable fund has been set up in memory of the late British philanthropist Julia Rausing and it plans to give out £100m in its first year.
The charitable fund was established to make grants in Rausing’s name who passed away in April at the age of 63.
Rausing was known for her commitment to philanthropy and contributions to various charitable causes.
She co-founded the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust with her husband in 2014, a charitable fund that supports good causes in the UK and beyond.
Announcing its launch, the Julia Rausing Trust pledged to give £100m to UK charities and organisations in its first year, “making it amongst the most significant philanthropic giving funds in the country”.
It said it would fund organisations and projects in arts and heritage, health and welfare, and education.
Hans Rausing said: “The Julia Rausing Trust is a fitting legacy to Julia’s philanthropic vision and has been established to support causes that were close to her heart.
“I hope that the Julia Rausing Trust will bring awareness to her generosity, demonstrate the important work philanthropy does, and support causes and organisations which are the backbone of our society.”
The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust has made over 1,000 donations totalling over £330m in the last decade.
Last year, it granted more than £71m, its largest year of donations.
