JustGiving reports record £550m raised for UK charities last year

More than £550m was raised for almost 20,000 UK charities through JustGiving last year, according to the fundraising platform.

Some £590m was raised through JustGiving for 23,000 charities in 2022, though this figure included charities outside of the UK and crowdfunding also. 

The 2023 figures are based on JustGiving internal data from 1 January until 15 December 2023 and relate to donations to and pages created to support UK charities only.

In 2023, more than 950,000 JustGiving fundraising pages were set up, which is on average 2,600 per day and 9% more than in 2022 overall.
 
JustGiving saw two million more donations to UK charities in 2023 when compared to 2022 and 3.5 million people donated to a good cause more than once.

Charity causes that received the most donations overall last year were those related to cancer, children and mental health.

Pascale Harvie, president and general manager of JustGiving said: “Despite it being a very difficult year for so many people, I have consistently been amazed by the incredible lengths that individuals have gone to, in order to raise funds and awareness for the causes closest to them.”
 
April was the busiest month of the year for giving overall, with tens of millions of pounds donated to London Marathon fundraisers.
 
Meanwhile, Friday was the most popular day of the week to donate to charity.
 
Running, walking, cycling and swimming were the most popular fundraising activities in 2023.

Charitable skydiving challenges increased by 40% and collectively raised almost £5.5m.
  
Norwich topped the list as the most generous area, with 22% of its residents donating to charitable causes on JustGiving last year.
