ActionAid has surpassed its fundraising target for its Ready for Anything campaign, having secured match funding from the Department for International Development.
The international aid charity received public donations totalling over £1.36m during its campaign from 4 February to 3 May this year. This was then matched through DfID's UK Aid Match fund to provide £2.7m towards disaster preparation programmes in at-risk countires.
The fundraising campaign utilised a range of events and practices to raise the funds.
A single direct mail-out raised £180,000, while £75,000 was raised through ActionAid's supporter magazine. The charity held its annual Call My Wine Bluff gala during the campaign, which raised £163,000 in ticket sales and auctions on the night, and a 32-person London Marathon team raised £63,000 for the cause. An anonymous donation of £100,000 was also made.
ActionAid also utilised partnerships to increase the campaign's impact. Long-term supporter Laithwaite's Wines promoted the campaign to its UK-wide audience, as did MumsNet.
UK Aid Match was launched in 2011 by the government in order to give the UK public a choice in where some of its international aid funding goes, by matching the donations made by the public to particular causes approved by DfID.
