Mencap has appointed Jan Tregelles, its director of personal support, as chief executive.
She was appointed interim chief executive earlier this year when Mark Goldring announced he would be joining Oxfam in April.
Tregelles first worked for Mencap in 1983 as a PA to one of the directors. She left to pursue a career in housing before returning to Mencap in 1997 to set up its housing arm, Golden Lane Housing. She has been director of personal support since 2002 and in that time has grown the turnover of the business from £80m to £180m in that time.
She said: “It is a privilege to be taking on the role of CEO of Mencap at this time. Over the coming months I will work with my colleagues to deliver a new strategy focusing on delivering more support to families as well as continuing to provide care and support for thousands of people with a learning disability to live full lives.”
