Barbara Kasumu has become the new executive director of charities at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Charity, Evelina London Children’s Charity and Guy’s Cancer Charity.
The three charities are part of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation and support Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Charity Commission data for the financial year ending 31 March 2021 states that total income at the Foundation was more than £28m, and total expenditure more than £45m.
Kasumu brings more than 15 years of senior leadership experience, and will oversee the development of new strategies with the aim to significantly grow income for the three charities.
She joins the Foundation from the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Prior to this she was director of membership, programmes and development at the National Union of Students (NUS).
The new executive director also currently sits on the board of the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) as a non-executive director.
She has co-founded a number of initiatives including Visible Women, a campaign pairing young women with female mentors in male-dominated industries, as well as executive search firm and consultancy, Inclusive Boards.
Kasumu said: “I am delighted to have started this new role, at such an important time, working with an amazing team to deliver greater impact.
“This is an exciting opportunity to support one of the country’s best-known NHS brands by truly championing the role that philanthropy can play in benefiting patients and staff alike in building a healthier society.”
