A recently appointed trustee at Sentebale, the charity co-founded by Prince Harry, resigned earlier this month after being in post for less than a week.
Margaret Ngozi Ikpoh, who was appointed as a trustee on 25 March 2025, subsequently stepped down on 2 April. Ikpoh’s trusteeship at Sentebale lasted for just six working days.
A spokesperson for the charity told Civil Society: “This is a particularly difficult time to have joined the organisation, given [recent] unexpected, sustained and intrusive media attention.
“She has chosen to step down out of respect for her family and other professional commitments, which we fully understand, respect and support.”
Irreparable relationship breakdown
Ikpoh was part of a group of new trustees brought in by Sentebale after former trustees of the organisation resigned in protest at the chair, Sophie Chandauka.
The former trustees said their relationship with Chandauka “broke down beyond repair, creating an untenable situation”.
Subsequently, Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho stepped down as patrons of the charity in solidarity with the former trustees. The princes founded the charity in 2006 in honour of their mothers.
The charity has been in the national spotlight after the internal dispute led the chair to sue Sentebale in the High Court and bring her case to the Charity Commission.
Chandauka claimed that there were issues of poor governance, weak executive management, abuse of power, bullying, harassment, misogyny and misogynoir at the charity.
The commission has since then opened a regulatory compliance case into a charity to examine governance concerns.
The regulator’s investigation will determine whether Sentebale’s former and current trustees, including Chandauka, “have fulfilled their duties and responsibilities under charity law”, it said earlier in April.
