NSPCC has said it aims for its pop-up charity shop with Harrods to raise more funds than last year as the store reopens in a bigger location.
The charity’s Fashion Re-Told store will open tomorrow for one month at 51 Marylebone High Street, a two-story site donated by Howard de Walden Estates.
This is the second year the charity and high-end retailer have opened a pop-up store together, opening a smaller shop on Sloane Street last April.
The store will sell a mix of pre-loved and new items donated by Harrods and other high-end retailers. Brands on offer include Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.
NSPCC said it raised £110,000 for the charity from sales at the shop last year, but it said it aims to raise more this year at a larger location.
Speaking to Civil Society News, Mike McGrath, NSPCC’s head of partnerships, said Harrods chief executive Michael Ward came up with the original idea for a luxury charity shop in late 2017 so the two organisations had “only a few months” to put the first one together.
This year, McGrath said Harrods want “to be bigger and bolder and more ambitious” with the shop, which will be staffed by employees from different departments across the two organisations.
He said: “Last year was an amazing result in the fact that we managed to raise £110,000. Whilst we haven’t set a specific target, we are obviously being as ambitious as we possibly can.
“We want as many people as possible to hear about the store, to come in each day, to attend the events we are doing throughout the month and to have a great experience. We are hoping that it will attract more people than it did last year and build on that success.”
However, McGrath said NSPCC had no plans to open any permanent charity shops or to open a similar pop-up shop in a location outside the capital.
The shop will be open seven days a week from 2 May to 2 June. It is open 11am - 7pm Mon-Sat and 12noon-6pm on Sunday.
