More than 33,400 organisations are signed up to the Big Help Out app, a nationwide volunteering event beginning on King Charles III's coronation.
There are 38,500 volunteering events due to take place on 8 May, the bank holiday Monday for the coronation, organisers say.
Over eight million opportunities are available for people to get involved in, with charities such as the Sea Cadets, the Canal and River Trust, and more.
This figure does not include the virtual events set to take place on the day. For example, Citizens Advice will be hosting virtual volunteer information sessions online.
Some six million people plan to volunteer on the 8 May, according to recent polling by the Big Help Out. Some 3.3 million people aged over 50 plan to volunteer on the day, according to over 50s specialist Saga.
Last week, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport told Civil Society there were 55,000 people registered on the Big Help Out app.
‘Scale of the response has taken our breath away’
Brendan Cox, co-founder of the Together Coalition, which is helping to organise the event, said: “The scale of response has taken our breath away. With over 35,000 events there is something for absolutely everyone to try. Even if you can’t take part on the day you can still sign up to future volunteering via the app and website.
“The coronation is going to be a huge weekend and the Big Help will help ensure its legacy doesn’t end when the bunting comes down.”
Former television presenter and star of Challenge Anneka, Anneka Rice, will be volunteering at the Felix Project food reuse depot in Poplar on 8 May.
She said: “Volunteering makes a huge difference to communities. And what better legacy from the coronation than a new generation of volunteers helping in local communities?
“From my experiences on Challenge Anneka I know that the British public love to help out. Sometimes they just need to be asked.”
