A total of 4,753 charities are currently late filing their accounts or annual returns with the charity Commission, according to figures published on the Register of Charities.
This figure seems to be down on last year, when as of 11 February 2015 5,200 charities were late filing their accounts.
Almost half of all charities have a financial year which ends on 31 March, and charities with incomes over £25,000 have ten months after that date to file financial information with the Charity Commission. Out of the 63,601 charities who are required to file, 4,753 charities are currently late in doing so.
Charities which failed to file on time included 10 charities with an income over £10m, and 223 charities with an income over £1m.
There are 10 charities with an income of over £10m which are listed as having filed late, include the now defunct charity Kids Company, and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
