Oxfam has announced that it is opening a new superstore that aims to raise nine times more funds than its average shops.
The store, which will be based on the Oxford Business Park North, where the charity’s headquarters is based, will include an on-site café as well as a clothes outlet. It will open in the summer.
A spokesperson from the charity said: “We expect the superstore to generate nine times more income than our average shop and due to the size of the building we need to invest more into getting it open. We’re confident the investment will pay for itself in the first 18 months of trading. “
Speaking about the decline of the high street, the spokesperson said: “We recognise that it is a challenging time for retailers at the moment but we think the superstore will offer something different and positive for the area."
The shop will create 11 full-time jobs and will also create opportunities for volunteers, including some 100 recruited through Oxfam’s Future Skills Project, which offers six-month volunteer placements for underprivileged women.
Oxfam’s trading director Andrew Horton added: "The superstore will be more than a shop – it will be a place for the community to get together, a café, as well as offering a huge choice of bargains and one-of-a-kind finds in a fantastic family-friendly environment.”
