Richard Taylor has been voted the most influential person in fundraising, with Mark Astarita falling to second place in Fundraising Magazine's annual poll.
Last week Taylor announced that he would not be leaving Cancer Research UK to join Which?, claiming that the move was “no longer tenable”. He had planned to take up a role in the commercial arm of Which? but continue to chair the IoF.
He will remain at CRUK in the short term, but the cancer charity has confirmed that it is continuing with the process to recruit a successor.
Mark Astarita, director of fundraising at the British Red Cross, slipped to second place in the annual poll after three years at the top spot.
For the first time there were more women than men in the top ten, including the late fundraiser and donor Olive Cooke, who came fourth.
The top ten Most Influential, according to Fundraising, are as follows:
- Richard Taylor, CRUK
- Mark Astarita, British Red Cross
- Liz Tate, Battersea Cats and Dogs Home
- Olive Cooke
- Paul Stein, MQ
- Tobin Aldrich, Alidrich Fundraising
- Danielle Atkinson, Breast Cancer Now
- Tanya Steele, Save the Children
- Lucy Caldicott, Lucy Caldicott Consulting
- Lynda Thomas, Macmillan Cancer Support
