Sense will open 20 charity shops across Wales over the coming months through a partnership with property developer Bearmont Homes.
The charity currently has 107 shops across England, but none in Wales.
Sense’s first Welsh store will be in a former Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) building in Mostyn Street, Llandudno.
The charity recently advertised for a full-time shop manager role at the Llandudno store, which is expected to open in the winter, and offered a £16,500 salary.
Rob Lloyd, chief executive of Bearmont Homes, said: “Llandudno will be the first retail outlet we launch with Sense as part of this national campaign.
“Mostyn Street is the perfect location and the site is around 1,200 square feet, so we look forward to rebranding and refitting with a new shopfront, ceilings, racking and more. It will be top quality.”
Further shops are set to open in Denbigh, Colwyn Bay, Abergele, Rhyl and Bargoed, with the property developer currently looking for suitable locations in west Wales and the Wrexham area.
Adrian Darkin, director of trading at Sense, said: “Sense will now be able to reach more people, helping to ensure that no one, no matter how complex their disability, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential.”
“Bearmont Homes will help us secure a presence on highstreets across Wales, and Sense shops will become local hubs for the community, bringing new jobs and volunteering opportunities.”
Civil Society Media's Charity Shops Survey 2019, the definitive annual survey of the charity retail market, will be published in October.
