Halita Obineche is the executive director of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH)

The Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) has appointed Halita Obineche as its first executive director.

The ADCH is an umbrella group for dog and cat rescue centres across the UK and Ireland and has 160 members.

This is a new role for the charity, and Obineche will lead on the implementation of strategy, operations, senior stakeholder management and partners and supporters that provide vital funding to the organisation. According to the CharityJob advert, it pays £51,000 per annum

Obineche took up the role on 28 March. She joined from independent charity The Magistrates Association, where she acted as director of membership and communication for three and a half years.

Before this, Obineche worked at the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners and with the Green Party. She also stood for the political party in Stoke Newington by-elections in 2016.

She has 15 years of experience in strategic development, stakeholder engagement and income generation and holds a masters degree in Anthropology and Cultural Politics from Goldsmiths University.

Obineche said: “At this pivotal time, as we review the impact of the pandemic and new legislation on animal welfare, I am delighted to be joining the ADCH as its first executive director.

“It's a fantastic organisation and I very much look forward to working with the passionate board, talented staff and rapidly growing membership as we strive to promote best practice in animal welfare for dogs and cats.”

Giles Webber, chair of ADCH, said: “Halita joins us at an extremely exciting time for ADCH and the dog and cat rescue sector at large. Welfare and operational standards are currently very much in the minds of rescue organisations, government and devolved administrations alike and Halita’s extensive experience in supporting membership bodies through change will bring enormous benefits to both the association and our members.”
