Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority

Grants available: up to £30,000
Deadline to apply: 20 March 2022
Who is the funding for? 
Community and voluntary groups, schools and not-for-profit organisations to use towards projects that will benefit the environment by reducing carbon emissions. For example, previous projects have included recycling guidebooks, restoring old furniture to sell for charity and cookery clubs to improve people’s diets. 

Successful applicants can be awarded up to £30,000 for schemes that operate across the six districts of Merseyside and Halton, or £1,000 to £8,000 for projects that work at one local level. 

Projects that will receive the funding must tackle household waste materials: 

  • Food
  • Textiles
  • Plastics
  • Furniture

The UK Youth Fund – Thriving Minds

Grants available: £15,000 - £50,000 per year for up to 3 years
Deadline to apply: 20 March 2022
Who is the funding for? 
UK Youth and Julia Hans Rausing Trust have joined forces to distribute £1.3m in funding for organisations that fund youth work, particularly those that help young people struggling with their mental health. The funding is available for youth organisations in the UK with a turnover of up to £500,000. 

Julia and Hans Rausing said: “This funding is a continuation of our work with UK Youth and follows the successful Youth Centre Recovery Fund we launched during the height of the pandemic. During our work with UK Youth, we established there is a real need for youth workers to support young people at such important stages of their lives.

“We hope that The UK Youth Fund – Thriving Minds and the £10m funding will be another example of how good quality, targeted youth work can make a real difference to young people across the UK, and we can’t wait to see the results.”

Social Enterprise Support Fund

Grants available: £10,000 - £100,000 
Deadline to apply: 24 March 2022
Who is the funding for?
The second round of the Social Enterprise Support Fund was released today. Funding should be used to put a social enterprise back on track or to help you work with communities that are recovering from Covid-19. Grants may fund the costs of a community outreach worker, help you provide educational support or help build local partnerships. 

When will you hear back?
The Social Enterprise Support Fund has said ‘decisions will be made quickly, and funds released as soon as possible.’

Rewilding Britain

Grants available: up to £15,000
Deadline to apply: 31 March 2022
Who is the funding for?
The Rewilding Innovation Fund is for projects anywhere in England, Wales and Scotland working to rewild the countryside. Rewilding is the large-scale restoration of ecosystems to the point where nature can take care of itself. 

Some examples of previous projects are seagrass restoration and tree seeding. Land-based projects need to be at least 40 hectares in size, while marine projects can be any size.

The Lego Foundation

Grants available: £74,000 - £11m
Deadline to apply: Organisations must be registered by 7 April. Deadline for submissions is 17 May 2022.
Who is the funding for?
To celebrate Lego’s 90th anniversary, Lego is inviting organisations to apply for a share of £105m in funding from The Lego Foundation. The Build a World of Play challenge is for organisations that make an impact on children’s early development. 

CEO of the charity Anne-Birgitte Albrectsen said this fund will address a “global early childhood emergency”, characterised by young children’s loss of access to services and support, particularly during the pandemic. 

The fund is available for applications worldwide. The Lego Foundation promotes learning through play, and wants to fund projects that transform early childhood experiences while addressing global social issues.

Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust

Grants available: £100,000 - £500,000
Deadline to apply: 8 April 2022
Who is the funding for?
The Trust’s new Innovation & Improvement in Health & Care Fund is open to applications from registered and exempt charities in the UK and to NHS organisations. The fund will support the development of new models of health and care and the integration of health and care services.

Applications can address any area of physical or mental health or disability but must demonstrate that the investment will translate into improved outcomes for people using the service, enhance access to services or improve their resilience. 

The Trust will only support projects which are either scalable or replicable by other organisations, and therefore have the potential to deliver benefits beyond a single setting. Projects may involve partners, but the lead organisation must be an established centre of excellence or have the potential to become a leader in its field. Shortlisting is completed in June 2022. Final decisions will be announced in November 2022.

The Civil Society Roots Programme

Grants available: £1,000 - £50,000
Deadline to apply: 22 April 2022
Who is the funding for?
The Mayor of London announced the third round of this programme last week. £1m of funding is available. The funding is for organisations that are led by and for communities impacted by structural inequalities. Grant money should help Londoners who are Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, Deaf, Disabled, LGBT+, the elderly and women. 

The 10 boroughs targeted in this round of funding are Bromley, Enfield, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Newham, Redbridge, Sutton and Wandsworth. 

Funding can be used to develop new partnerships, work on a collaborative project, fund research, team building or training.
