Who’s Moving: Action on Hearing Loss, CLIC Sargent and the Charity Commission

Our weekly summary of the latest movers in the charity sector.   

Chief executive 

Paul Breckell has announced that he is leaving Action on Hearing Loss in August to join Ambitious About Autism as director of strategy and transformation. Read the full story here. 

A new body for London charities, Hub for London, has appointed a chief executive. Margaret Cooney has previously worked for vInspired and Big Lottery Fund. The new infrastructure body is due to launch in the autumn. Hub for London is a working name: the new name and website will be announced shortly. 

Finance and operations 

Roger Smith has been appointed as interim director of people and learning at CLIC Sargent, a charity for young cancer patients and their families, to develop its new learning and development strategy. He joins from the British Red Cross, where he was director of human resources for 25 years.  

Regulation 

The culture secretary, Matt Hancock, has extended the term of Mike Ashley as a member of the Charity Commission board for two years, starting on 1 November 2018. 

Ashley joined the Commission’s board in October 2014 and in 2017 his term was extended for one year. 

He is also a board member for Barclays, chair of the Government Internal Audit Agency and a member of HM Treasury’s Audit Committee.
